Article 25:

Of the Abolishing of the Ceremonial Law.

We believe, that the ceremonies and figures of the law ceased at the coming of Christ, [1] and that all the shadows are accomplished; so that the use of them must be abolished amongst Christians; [2] yet the truth and substance of them remain with us in Jesus Christ, in whom they have their completion. In the meantime, we still use the testimonies taken out of the law and the prophets, to confirm us in the doctrine of the gospel, [3] and to regulate our life in all honesty, to the glory of God, according to his will.

Scriptural Proof
  1. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. Rom. 10:4.

  2. Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. Gal. 5:2-4;

    O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? Gal. 3:1;

    Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years. I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain. Gal. 4:10,11;

    Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. Col. 2:16,17.

  3. We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 2 Peter 1:19.
