Of God The Father
Lord's Day 9
Question 26. What believest thou when thou sayest, "I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth"?
Answer. That the eternal Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (who [a] of nothing made heaven and earth, with all that is in them; who likewise upholds and [b] governs the same by his eternal counsel and providence) is for the sake of Christ his Son, my God and my Father; on whom I rely so entirely, that I have no doubt, but he will provide me with all things necessary [c] for soul and body: and further, that he will make whatever evils he sends upon me, in this valley of tears [d] turn out to my advantage; for he is able to do it, being Almighty [e] God, and willing, being a [f] faithful Father.

Scriptural Proof
- In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth... Gen. 1:1ff.;
Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made... Gen 2:1,2ff.;
By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. Psa. 33:6
- But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased. Psa. 115:3;
"Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. " Mat. 10:29;
Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Heb. 1:3;
But Jesus answered them, "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. " John 5:17
- But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: ... And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. John 1:12,16;
For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: Rom. 8:15,16;
To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Gal. 4:5,6;
Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, Eph. 1:5;
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. 1John 3:1
- Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. Psa. 55:22;
"Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? " Mat. 6:26
- And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Rom. 8:28;
And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. Rom. 4:21
- For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. Rom. 10:12;
"Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? " Mat. 6:26;
"Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? " Mat. 7:9,10,11
